The Parish Council was shocked and deeply saddened to hear of the horrendous accident on Saturday evening. As I’m sure most residents know, this junction has a long history of accidents. The Parish Council supports the tireless ongoing work of our 2 county councillors to progress action to make this junction safe, for all users, by the installation of traffic lights and it continues to raise residents road safety concerns with Durham County Council (DCC) at every opportunity.
In response to this latest tragic incident, the joint letter below has today been sent to the Chief Executive of DCC from our MP, Mary Foy, urging the County Council to begin work to make this junction safe immediately.
The Parish Council also welcomes the initiative of residents in taking action to try and ensure change through the following petition which all residents are encouraged to sign to demonstrate the community need for urgent action. Here is a link to the petition:
